Tomorrowland Stills

I was fortunate enough to be a part of the incredibly talented team at ILM. It was a great experience as I didn't realize just how much design work we got to do (which was a blast), with the art direction led by the awesome Thang Le. It was an epic journey to be a part of. Every one of the generalists contributed so much to this massive city, I'm still shocked how we managed to mesh it all together. I'm happy to say I got to light all of the environments I had built. I did the lighting for all of these shots expect for the two I called out. Some of these shots were verrrrrrrry long in cut length. 12/10 would do it all over again.

I modeled this environment in the foreground. It was quite an undertaking, balancing designing and experimenting with the execution process. In the end it was my favorite environment I got to do on the show.

This was a set extension environment I made. I didn't model the building in the BG or the Tower of the Winds structure, but I did do their lookdev and modeled everything else. Everything from the entry booth forward is plate.

I made this hero building and I gotta say, it was a long process finally nailing the look. I didn't do the lighting in this shot.

I also did the immediate area around the gold tower which encompasses about 1/4th of the screen space. Lots of work but well worth it!

I worked off the layout geo and made the midground hill with the waterfall and all of the structures in it. I didn't do the lighting in this shot.

I spent most of the time going through various changes of this set, finally landing on this look we ended up with. The latticing structures were the only parts of the environment I didn't model, but I did get to texture and shade.

...further later in the shot, this pool area was fun designing. According to the CG Supervisor, reviewing this shot with Brad Bird, it was the first time he heard Brad say "Wowww" up to that point. Feels great knowing The Bird dug my work!

Yet another fun environment I got to make. This shot won best lighting and best shot awards at ILM!

This was another environment I did for the foreground which includes a couple of set extensions. I didn't do any of the background city and hills.

The ground level of this set is all CG which was done by our Vancouver team, and we overlapped in some areas of the set.
